Home Page
I built the "Vintage Clarinet Doctor" site to give the owners and fanciers of vintage clarinets access to:
- Information (about the history, makers, and fingering systems of older clarinets)
All in one place!
I've seen lots of sites devoted to vintage trumpets or saxophones, but few sites for vintage clarinets. Most of those are Q&A, or piles of lengthy articles, or lists of instrument holdings in private collections, but I wanted a site (as a clarinetist) that met all my needs. I encourage people to write with questions, send interesting links that I can include, share information, and (hopefully) buy a clarinet or send one of yours for work.
Below is a brief summary of each page: hopefully, enough to get you scrolling but not enough to scare you off!
About Us - My background as a repairman, teacher, etc and my goals for my services and the instruments that I sell.
Instruments for Sale - Good quality clarinets by less well known makers, overhauled and ready to play.
Services - Overhaul info for your clarinet or sax and how much it costs.
Services II - The nitty gritty of the special things that need to be done to vintage clarinets, why they'll play better, and why it costs a little more.
Obscure Makers - A list of some of my favorite makers of clarinets (other than Buffet, Selmer and Leblanc). A world of great old horns for far less money!
Links - Websites of interest, including my band (of course) places to buy stuff, info on serial numbers, reeds and more.
Contact Us - Send me an email with questions, info, links, etc. I don't include my phone number or physical address for obvious reasons (the internet is a wild, wooly place!) but I'd be happy to hear from you.
Music Lessons - Yes, I teach too! If you're in the Lynchburg area, give me a call: I bet I can improve your clarinet or sax sound in about 1/2 and hour with a change in reed, lig, and mouthpiece as well as an instrument check-up and some technical advice.
WARNING - this site is under constant revision, so expect changes!!
